Don’t let the media fool you into thinking that every woman is getting a Brazilian or a Hollywood wax, because they’re not. The majority of women opt to get a high bikini line wax and leave it at that. The good news is that bikini lines are a cinch to tackle at home. The most important step in the waxing process is the prep work – exfoliation. Exfoliation is the key to getting a better wax.

This helps you get a really good bikini wax and makes ingrown hairs less likely. Then rinse and dry your skin thoroughly.
  2. Before applying hot wax to the skin, always be sure to check its temperature. This is important since some hot waxes require more heat than others. Go ahead and double or even triple check the temperature of the wax before you apply it to your skin. Overly hot wax can lead to a nasty burn, and since wax is designed to adhere, it is that much more important to be careful. If you are nervous about burning yourself choose to use a cold wax instead.
  3. Smooth on small areas of wax, spreading it in the direction of hair growth. Press on the cloth strip, tense the skin with one hand and pull the cloth off quickly away from the direction of hair growth with the other hand. Be sure to only wax small areas at a time or you will discover that there are few things more excruciating than stripping off a large area all at once.
  4. Although your bikini line may be neat, longer hairs can still stray out from under the leg openings of your swimsuit. So remember to trim the remaining hairs down for a sleek, finished look.
  5. To soothe any redness and make skin look glossy treat post-waxing areas with a tea tree oil or aloe body lotion.
  6. When you wax your bikini line aftercare is vital. Before you get into any type of heated situation (e.g., sun, tanning beds, saunas, showers, and hot baths), let 24 hours go by. This is because heat opens up your pores and creates irritation.

There you have it. Nothing too complicated, right? It really is just that simple. Following these six easy steps on how to wax your bikini line will give you a better baby soft, silky smooth finish and will also make maintenance and upkeep a breeze. Knowing how to wax your bikini line will not only save you money, but best of all it will help you avoid the stress and embarrassment that often comes with having some stranger’s fingers strolling around your sacred garden while your womanliness is fully exposed on a table.

The difference between the hot and cold waxing methods is the temperature at which you apply them. The hot wax method involves melting the wax prior to use. Once the wax is melted and comes to a comfortable temperature a thin layer of the wax is spread onto the area to be treated in the direction of the hair growth and a cloth is pressed over the wax to aid in removal. As the hot wax cools it constricts and binds around the hair. Once the wax is cooled and hardens it is quickly pulled off using the cloth in the opposite direction of the hair growth, and the hair is removed with it.

With the cold wax method, strips of cloth are pre-coated with a wax that is in a semi-solid state. To use the cold wax method you simply apply a waxing strip to the area of hair you want to remove, press down hard and rub the strip in the direction of hair growth, and then pull the strip off quickly in the opposite direction.

Although hot waxing techniques are a bit messier than cold wax ones, many people find that the hot wax gives better results since it usually adheres to unwanted hair better. Cold wax may not always stick to hair as well as hot wax, but it is less messy. It also leaves behind less residual wax than the hot method.

The cold wax method is also easier to do than the hot wax method. Cold wax strips come in a variety of sizes which allows eyebrow hair removal to be as easy as leg hair removal. In contrast, hot wax must be applied with a utensil such as a stick, making small areas like the eyebrows or upper lip more difficult to treat.

Finally, hot wax is often more painful upon removal than cold wax because the hardened hot wax can also stick to the skin, not just the hair. With hot waxing removing the wax can also remove surface skin resulting in irritation, redness, and pain. To help avoid this baby or talcum powder can be spread liberally over the area to be waxed to prevent the hot wax from sticking to the sensitive skin. Hot waxing does not usually need to be repeated as one application is usually sufficient. Although the cold wax method is less painful upon removal than the hot wax method (because it doesn’t adhere to the skin as strongly), it does need to be applied repeatedly from time to time in order to get the best results. This repeated application can result in skin irritation, ingrown hairs, and painful red bumps.

I also used waxing until I discovered laser hair removal. It is more expensive but painless and it lasts for a long time.
