Acne
Acne:A pimple starts when the skin pores become clogged with a type of oil called sebum, which lubricates the skin and hair. Acne is common during puberty when hormones go into overdrive, causing the skin to overproduce sebum. Since many of producing glands in the forehead, nose and chin, this area – the T-zone – is where a person is more prone to pimples.
Here are some tips to help prevent outbreaks and clear them as fast as possible:
* Wash your face twice a day (no more) with warm water and mild soap made for people with acne. Gently massage face with circular motions. Do not rub. Wash and scrub your skin too can become irritated. After cleaning, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends applying a counter (without prescription) lotion containing benzoyl peroxide. This will reduce the oil and bacteria.
* Do not pop pimples. It is tempting, but here is why should not: Popping pimples can push infected material through the skin, causing more swelling and redness and even scarring. If a pimple coming before a big event like the prom, a dermatologist can treat for you, with less risk of scarring or infection.
* Avoid touching your face with your fingers or leaning your face on objects that collect sebum and skin residue like the telephone. Touching your face can spread the bacteria that cause pores to become inflamed and irritated. To keep bacteria at bay, wash your hands before applying anything on the face, such as creams or makeup.
* If you wear glasses or sunglasses, make sure you clean them frequently to prevent grease from clogging the pores around the eyes and nose.
* If you have acne on your body, try not to wear tight clothing which do not allow the skin to breathe and can cause irritation. You may also want to stay away from scarves, headbands and caps, which tend to accumulate dirt and oil, too.
* Remove makeup before going to sleep. Buy When makeup, be sure to choose brands that say “non-comedogenic” or “nonacnegenic” on the label. Throw away old makeup that smells or looks different from the first time I bought it.
* Keep your hair clean and out of the face to prevent dirt or oil, clogging the pores.
* Protect your skin from the sun. It may appear tan masks acne, but is only temporary. A tan can cause the body to produce more sebum, which can make acne worse, not better. The sun also causes skin damage that eventually the appearance of wrinkles and increase your risk of skin cancer.
